Today in 1967, President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the "meat bill"(wholesome meat act), in the presence of Upton Sinclair, the author of the controversial book The Jungle. It amended the Federal Meat Inspection Act of 1906 which established a statute for federal meat inspection programs.
