Not only has the University of Portsmouth figured out a way to make soap from straw and other agricultural waste, but the process uses bacteria to create the soap.

Dr. Pattanathu Rahman, a Portsmouth microbial biotechnologist and director of TeeGene in the U.K., worked with Ph.D. scholar Sam Joy and others to create a biosurfactant by brewing rice straw with enzymes.
