Enough is enough, Lionel Messi stuns the football world by handing a transfer request to leave Barcelona on a free. Barcelona has confirmed that Messi has sent a document expressing his desire to use a clause in his contract which will allow him to leave for free this summer.
Barcelona are currently preparing their reply to the document, insisting that the current clause in the contract has already expired last June 10. The announcement came 11 days after the humiliating 8-2 defeat against this years Champions League Winner Bayern Munich.
It would be catastrophic for Barcelona financially if Messi leaves on a free, as he has a current transfer release clause of 700 million euros.
According to reports, the 6 time Ballon d'Or winner has picked Manchester City as his next club, paving the way to a reunion with former Manager Pep Guardiola.
This is a shocking news for me, as one of the greatest ever to play the game is leaving Barcelona. I could not have imagined that Messi will ever leave Barcelona and play his whole club career there. Following a run of unsuccessful seasons, and changing of Managers, I think it piled up which resulted to handing in the transfer request, aiming for a new challenge.
I guess Messi will end up to the big spenders like PSG or Manchester City. I guess it will be Manchester City as Pep Guardiola is there his former manager at Barcelona and he will link up with Argentina team mate Sergio Aguero.
I wouldn't be surprised if other big clubs would try to get him. They would become instant contenders for Europe and Domestically once they acquire their services.
I think this move will be benefitial for Messi, brings in a new challenge and environment, as I think he has still a lot of gas left in the tank.
