No need to upvote comments at 100% (unless you really want). It might be better if you guys explore some of the content you find behind the names and see if there are people you want to support more directly on their own content.

The reason is that you will get random people that care nothing for what you contribute other than for the upvote.

Good to have you here though and the comment vote is appreciated.

Let's be honest @atheistrepublic, we all know that Christians are been victimized almost allover the place. Welcome to steemit all the same.

09.10.2019 20:46

Christians are victimized by other religions, not by atheists.

09.10.2019 23:40

In China, Muslims are being persecuted by the Chinese Government.

The first video we uploaded to #steem via @threespeak talks about it πŸ˜ƒ

13.10.2019 15:40
1

As an atheist, Tub Cat has been victimised by Christians on many an occasion.

Poor behaviour happens on all sides of the fence and is down to the human or cat’s behaviour. Not the god or lack of god that they choose to follow.

10.10.2019 11:38
2

My reaction came from the post written up there that it is only atheist that are victimized in the world, which is wrong.

10.10.2019 11:55

I'd be interested to see what you think about the video we uploaded today @yaanivapeji.

We discussed the Muslims who are be persecuted in China.

13.10.2019 15:39
1

Hello @atheistrepublic,

Am afraid that I may not be able to watch the video because my data is low and I don't make enough here to always buy data.

But it is unfortunate what China is doing to the Muslims in their country. But I will say that the Muslim community around the world, should do more in condemning terrorism from within.

Because I have the feeling that China is doing this because of the cases of terrorism that has come from the Muslim community.

The essence of Steem blockchain is to have a world where freedom is for everyone, love is for everybody.

One strong ligament that should bound us is the fact that we’re all human!

Therefore I welcome our brothers here, I’ll love to associate with them and support them.

Thanks Dan for this healing that’s coming to our planet 🌏

Not going to happen, you just have to take a look at the Christians vs atheists debates... They start really good with lots of interesting philosophical arguments, then it's down to a myriad of insults from one side to another... I wrote it in another comment, I think that there's not helping this outcome since faith is not a subject to be debated, it's meant to be believed, felt, embraced... or not. Hence, there's no middle point about it.

12.10.2019 22:16
0

I don't particularly disagree with you joelsegovia... I'll just point out that 100% of that comment I wrote above was meant as a joke.

To me the whole thing is rediculous. Hence the joking. Why people would argue, let alone kill each other, over ideological differences has baffled me all of my life.

I have the same mindset about reliegion-based conflicts... It would be awesome if someone involved in such a conflict could state how is it exactly that people with different ideas about faith is a threaten against its own...

Because, let's assume that certain subject is right and a particular God-like entity does exist, as far as I know at most beleivers are asked to try to convince other people... If people just don't listen then it's the God-like entity's business. There's no need to go and hate, fight, etc then unfaithful ones.

I think you've hit on one of the key points of how/why more and bloody murder has been perpetuated in the name of religion, than any other mechanism of thought human-kind has ever envisioned.

It's the 'my god is right, your god is wrong' attitude and the political machinations of corrupt people and systems within religions that perpetuate this idea.

It would be awesome if someone involved in such a conflict could state how is it exactly that people with different ideas about faith is a threaten against its own.

Yeah, I agree. But I don't think they ever would. Some of them are genuinely sociopaths, I.E. they enjoy being part of the chaos, pain and suffering caused by demonizing one group of people based on a differing belief system. Others, are simply so emotionally invested in being part of the church/mosque/temple that they become blind to the pain, and indoctrinated, by those who benefit from causing and perpetuating conflict among religions. It's politics!

When you take the church, mosque, temple... whatever you want to call the centralized seat of power for all the major religions out of the equation, what you usually have (in all religions) is a bunch of people who believe in a set of simple rules they live their life by. Love and compassion for your fellow man, charity etc. Many of the tenants are very similar across the religious systems, yet people are herded toward a doctrine of separation.

I'm an atheist/agnostic but I recognize the FACT that the vast majority of religious folks are good people simply trying to live their lives as best they can.

I have got a problem with the more aggressive people of any religion that are all about converting as many people as possible, mainly because I see them as egotistical to assume I (or anyone else) haven't looked at various religions with an open mind and come to my choices through considered education and thought. But even in these cases, what is the point in getting angry or combative with those guys lol, for me kindness, understanding and love are the universal commodities that we can all share. If someone is annoying me by trying to force their views/beliefs on me, I find it's constructive to remove myself from their company but offer them understanding rather than aggression when I have to deal with them.

The main thing that makes me laugh when I encounter jehovah's witnesses knocking on my door, or Mormons tapping my shoulder on the bus is that they so often can't grasp why I don't feel the need to debate with them, and in some cases become pretty annoyed. It just doesn't interest me. Usually the offence is taken on their side, because you are somehow wrong in not listening and acknowledging their faith. This is an insane view point. There is no need to acknowledge faith, people either have it or they don't. Faith by it's very nature is personal. It's like me going around knocking on church doors hassling worshipers to acknowledged that god doesn't exist (only my opinion)... I would never do that because... you know.... live and let live. I respect everyone's right to their choices unless they are causing violence to people not in self defense.

At the end of the day as you say here:

There's no need to go and hate, fight, etc then unfaithful ones.

My choice to not believe in any god is my choice, and your (I assume) choice to believe in a higher power is your choice... there is no need to fight about it. That's a truly pointless argument.

All the best :)

I'm a scientist, science also has some kind of faith in its core, which is that somehow we can perceive at least portions of "the reality", and that this "reality" and the laws it follows is somehow objective and independent of the particular mindset of the person observing it... This ontologic principle is, as far as I understand, not possible to demonstrate since its demonstration has an inherent paradox.

Relegion and the shape it has given to human society across hundred of years is another story. To me it's more like a cultural manifestation of the Huma society as as whole, an intrinsic part of each human group.

By the way, it's not that I believe or not in superior entities. The thing is that I think that "facts do exist and that I am unaware of the vast majority of them. That's my phylosoohycal stand about live.

10.10.2019 21:51
1

10.10.2019 21:51
0

It surely will increase engagement, as for debating I really don't know... Atheists and religious people don't get along that well.

12.10.2019 14:57
1

I think it also depends on the atheist and the "religious" person.

12.10.2019 20:26
1

Oh, don't get me wrong... I don't have any stand against any religion, I have nothing that drives me to support one either. It's just I have read several hundreds of debates about this subject and barely 5% of them ended without any form of conflict... I think cuz on the deep end religion is not about reason is about faith, and peoples feelings and experience is something untransferable (so far).

12.10.2019 22:05
1

I personally don't think religion is about faith as much as people think it is.

I think religion is about truth since people have faith in what they believe because they think it is true.

In that sense, I think atheists and theists will ultimately arrive at the same conclusions, so long as they seek seriously enough and long enough.

Having said that, I think atheists tend to explain things from a 2nd or 3rd person perspective and the theists who add value, are most likely explaining things from a 1st person perspective.

13.10.2019 10:03
2

This is an interesting approach, but at the same time might be the reason about why while on debates is so difficult to reach a midpoint. Some people think that if something as the truth exist is unique, therefore most try to prove that their ideas are the ones which are true, hence divergent ideas are false.

14.10.2019 11:58
1

It can also be a matter of perspective where any sentence or group of words can be realized as true or false depending on the way it is interpreted or explained πŸ‘

Thanks Dan! Great initiative and for sure and an ingenious way to coax larger accounts on to STEEM.

My only critique is the announcement is a bit anti-climatic, given their account has no posts or comments. Seems like this would go better in future if it coincided with an #introduceyourself post and an AMA. Perhaps you could get these individuals to commit to a certain date to these activities as part of the reward process and make it an event when you drop the announcement.

I usually have a million things on my plate so I tend to just push to production asap everytime. I posted this as soon as I got them to join and agree to use Steem. When they make their intro I will resteem. I get your point though, but just not my style TBH.

Understood. It's a generous gesture, and I sincerely hope that they take full advantage of it. Cheers!

Awesome. I think I was one of the first people to follow them after I saw your announcement on twitter.

I'm pleased to see that your personal goals on steem are about balance of voices and freedom of speech. At the end of the day the likes of Facebook and YouTube arbitrarily deciding who can say what, is a style of centralised social control. They act like the digital governments of the internet enforcing their agendas on everyone through censorship.

I became interested in blockchain tech for its potential for an evolution away from the same old controlling systems of governance. A good place to start is getting rid of censorship, providing the content neither harms or abuses anyone or incites others to cause harm to people. People arguing ideological differences isn't harming anyone, but some people are bound to end up offended.

The old saying is true; 'you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.'

It's something like that anyway πŸ˜‚

Great job @theycallmedan, I'm currently a citizen of a country where my lack of belief is seen as weakness and a stigma. Besides social media, I haven't come across any group for atheist ever in my country and I do feel left out sometimes. Welcome @atheistrepublic . I'm glad there's finally a presence and voice for us here on steemit.❀️
