Black Solanaceae and its properties

Black Solanum is an annual herbaceous plant up to 1 m tall, its stem is erect, branched, slightly pubescent. The leaves are alternate, pointed oval, up to 13 cm long, up to 8 cm wide. The flowers are small, white, collected in inflorescences fallen in the form of umbrellas. Fruits: black berries, rarely white or greenish, juicy, with a diameter of up to 1 cm. The plant blooms from June to September, the fruits ripen from July to October.


Nightshade can be found practically throughout Russia, with the exception of the northern regions, as well as in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Ukraine, Belarus. It grows on farmland, gardens, along the banks of reservoirs and rivers, in gardens, among bushes.

Nightshade refers to medicinal plants with a broad spectrum of action. For medicinal purposes, the leaves and grass are harvested from July to September, and the fruits from August to October. Nightshade contains dyes and tannins, carotene, sugars, organic acids. In addition, the plant includes toxic substances such as bitter dulcamarin glycoside, as well as glucoalcaloides: solanine, solanein, solacein. In ripe fruits, solanine is almost completely destroyed.

Solanum fruits have choleretic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant and anti-rheumatic properties. The plant has a beneficial effect on the human body in diseases such as atherosclerosis and hypertension (5-6 g of fresh ripe berries per day), diseases of the bladder and genitourinary tract, skin diseases. It has a calming effect on the nervous system, relieves pain of various origins. Nightshade is also used for epilepsy, dyspepsia, pyelitis.

Nightshade ointment is used for lichen, boils, ulcers and suppurating wounds. Help with malignant blood diseases, including leukemia. A decoction of the aerial part is used to rinse with throat diseases, suppurating gums, inflammation of the oral cavity. Since all parts of the plant are poisonous (except ripe berries), they can only be used after consulting a doctor!

For medicinal purposes, infusions and decoctions of solanaceae, fresh berries, ripe fruit juice, leaf juice, leaf ointment are used.

Infusion of night shadow: 5 g of crushed dried grass with a glass of boiling water should be poured and let stand for 3-4 hours, then strain and take 3-4 times a day, 1 tablespoon each. This tool helps well with neurosis, headaches and rheumatic pains, joint pain. You can use it in the form of lotions for boils and lichen.

Solanum broth: 250 ml of boiling water are taken per teaspoon of chopped solanagrass, heated in a water bath for 15 minutes, then filtered and taken for 10 days, 1 teaspoon of broth twice a day. The drug is recommended for cough, neuralgia, colitis, bronchial asthma, gastritis, cystitis, as well as rheumatism and itchy eczema.

Decoction of Solanaceae fruits: a glass of boiling water for 20 g of ripe Solanaceae fruits should be boiled in a water bath for 10-15 minutes, filtered. Dose: 4 times a day for 1 tablespoon. The tool is effective for colitis, gallstone disease, gout, rheumatism.

Rinse with night shade: 50 ml of fresh ripe fruit juice should be diluted in 150 ml of water and rinse mouth and throat with angina, inflammation of the mucous membrane. With a cold: 2-3 drops of juice in the nose.

Night shadow ointment: night shadow leaves should be ground into powder and mixed with sunflower oil in a 1: 4 ratio. The resulting ointment can lubricate suppurating wounds, ulcers.
