COVID-19 IN GHANA

Ghana first two COVID-19 case was reported on 13 March, 2020 two days after it was declared a pandemic. Everyone was in panic. No one knows what the coming days would be about.

On 28th March president Nana Akufo-Addo announces a partial lock down of two weeks in Accra and Kumasi as it was the hotspot of COVID-19 in the country. People were only allowed to leave their homes if they were to get essential items such as food, water and medicine. People were also allowed to visit the toilet and banks.

ASTRAZENECA/OXFORD VACCINE

It took about a year for a vaccine to be developed. Scientist needed more time to learn how the virus behaves so they can produce an effective vaccine. On the 24th February, 600,000 AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine arrived in Ghana. Since then vaccination has been taking place.

People who took the vaccine have been complaining of side effects of vaccine which include;

  • Fever(37.8 degree above temp.)
  • join pains
  • chills
  • nausea or vomiting
  • feeling tired
  • redness of injected area
    • headache or muscle ache

People usually don’t know it is normal to have such effects and they worry too much about them. Some people go ahead to tell others not to take a shot of the vaccine, which is very bad. I found the need to make this article to educate people what is normal about the vaccine and they shouldn’t panic when they experience such effects.

HOW THE VACCINE WORK

It is made to look like corona virus which can’t make you sick. It makes the body think it has the virus, which makes the body mount defense against it. The side effects of the vaccines is a confirmation the vaccine is working on your body. It usually prevents you to do your daily activities.
These side effects should be gone in few days then you body can get back to normal. A study shows Oxford vaccine is 76% effective for single dose and 82% effective with the second dose. To be completely safe we all need to take both shot of the vaccine. We all can’t wait till life go back to normal!!!

RECOMMENDATION

Nurses and doctors needs to educate the people taking the vaccine what they should expect in the coming days. They don’t get to worry when they start to experience some of the effects.

CONCLUSION

The vaccine is safe, go take your shot and if you’ve taken it don’t worry about the side effects. It stops in few days time.
