In West Virginia with 5 lectoral votes voted Donald Trump US president. Trump also managed to win in South Carolina with 9 electoral votes. Meanwhile, Biden won 13 electoral votes in Virnia. Unlike elections in several countries, including Indonesia, the US President and Vice President are not directly elected by the people . Instead they are selected by the so-called elector who is the recipient of the party's mandate, while the electoral election process is called the Electoral College. This method is the result of a constitutional compromise that combines the presidential election with the most votes with the presidential election through the Congress (DPR and Senate). The number of electors in each state is determined by how many members of Congress (DPR and Senate) from a state, plus a special area of the capital city of Washington DC which has three electors. The total elector itself is 538 people. But the elector is not a member of Congress or a government / party official at all. Each state-level political party (DPD) elects its own elector to represent its state. After voters cast their votes in the November 3 2020 Election voting, these voters' votes are counted on a state basis (not national as happened in Indonesia). Presidential candidate Biden or Trump is declared victorious in the state if he wins the majority of the state's electoral votes (winner takes all). For example, if presidential candidate Biden gets 11 out of a total of 20 electoral votes in Illinois, then Biden wins in Illinois, even though his opponent Trump has 9 electoral votes in this state. Only two states have not adopted the winner takes all concept, namely Maine and Nebraska. The two states apply a proportional system. Because there are a total of 538 electors, a presidential candidate is declared to have won the election or was named president of the US when he / she gets at least 270 electoral votes.
