CBD and Sex

It doesn’t matter what the product is, at some point, the conversation will get onto sex, and CBD is no different. So, let’s dive straight into the crux of the matter, can CBD have an effect on your sex life?

There are two opposing questions that come up most when discussing CBD and sex. Firstly, can CBD decrease your sex drive? And secondly, can CBD improve your sex life?

Now, we could discuss these issues separately, but to be fair, it is unlikely that both are true (although not impossible, we’ll get to that). So instead, let’s embark on a slow, deep, enjoyable examination of the relationship between CBD and sex.

The History of Cannabis and Sex

The use of cannabis in sexual practices goes back longer than you may expect. In fact, cannabis products have played a part in the history of tantric sex in Hindu culture for thousands of years.

Sacred texts from centuries ago talk in detail about the ability for marijuana to increase sexual pleasure, and this belief is something that has continued right up to the present day.

In fact, modern research has produced remarkably similar results to these ancient texts. Although it’s fair to say the way that the research was carried out is probably a fair bit different these days!

What about CBD and Sex?

But that’s marijuana, more specifically THC, the psychoactive molecule found in abundance in marijuana plants.

But that’s not what we’re here to discuss. Instead, we’re going to talk about CBD, the non-psychoactive molecule found more in industrial hemp plants, and how it may affect one’s sex life.

CBD is being increasingly used as an alternative treatment for different illnesses and ailments, and it is only logical that the next step is to examine whether it’s possible that CBD could have an effect on your sex life.

The important thing to note first is that there has not been any scientific research to suggest that CBD products can have a negative effect on your sex drive (so let’s all breathe a heart sigh of relief on that one!).

However, everybody is different, and the body’s react in different ways to our products. If you feel that the CBD product you are using may be having a negative effect on your sex life, do not hesitate to talk to us about it, and we can discuss whether an alternative product or stop taking CBD completely may be the right option for you.

The Positives

Now we have that little disclaimer out the way, let’s have a look at the possible positive impact of CBD on your sex life.

The first way that CBD could be helpful is to combat those pesky pre-sex nerves that we all struggle from every now and again.

CBD works with your endocannabinoid system, which affects various reactions in the brain, and is said, by some, to be able to calm down mood and relieve stress.

If true these effects could undoubtedly have a positive effect on the impact of nerves before, and indeed during sex.

There is also a suggestion that CBD could help those with erectile dysfunction. The scientific research into this subject is in its embryonic phases at this point, but as soon as we have any news, we will be sure to let you know immediately.

That’s all well and good, but let’s face it, what you probably want to know is whether CBD can heighten the sensation of sexual activity (there’s no shame in that, it’s totally what we want to know too!).

Here’s the logic behind it, CBD helps your sexual inhibition system and your sexual excitement system work together, allowing you to think more clearly, diminish nerves, and allow you to be fully receptive to the pleasure you are experiencing.

So the suggestion is that CBD doesn’t actually improve sex, it’s more that it helps you realise how good the sex you are having is anyway!

CBD being a non-psychoactive molecule means you don’t have to worry about side effects or the lack of control you may feel with THC products. This is an entirely natural product that may just help you achieve the optimum level of excitement from the sex you’re having.

Have you tried CBD before (or during) sex? What were your findings? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
