Vote for your witnesses!

It's been said many times. But now is the one time it really counts.
According to their last post, Steemit Inc. is planning a Hard Fork that lowers Power Down time to an extent that would completely destroy content voting. They obviously still don't know what they're doing, and we cannot leave them in control over this chain.

Capture.PNG

The exchanges that took part in the coup already backed out, we're only missing 2.2% to bring our first community witness back in. I put aside all other differences and moved my witness votes to the active top 30 from the community, and I urge every other stakeholder to do the same.
We either take this back over as a community now, or we will have to fork out. Let's get this done!

I knew you would have a list, nice work, I was going to dm you and ask for one

:)

Those don't have a vote cast at all but I think there are more 'active' witness voters who could move around a little to support 21-50.

Yep for sure.

A table with "proxied vsf votes" would be useful too. For example @proxy.token alone has enough power to move Yaba to top20.

Great work. People should be reaching out to those on the above list that they know encouraging them to vote.
Some are quite active on Steem.

There are a few names I recognise and I've been contacting privately.

What we really need is mottler and val-b to wake up, but the wider community could find 5/6 mill also.

03.03.2020 12:37

Any way the SPS could help us out? For instance, send SBD to a trusted community account to vote up witnesses that could be burned at a later date? Not sure how this would work.

03.03.2020 12:23
0

I'm not sure how much is there at present and if it would make too much difference - 5/6m SP worth of VESTS is required.

There is a decent list of 50k+ account holders who aren't voting at all, or who could switch existing votes to the witnesses currently at 21/50 - I think we just need to wake a few people up!

03.03.2020 12:33

It would be about 12,500 SP per day. Maybe the proposal could even be a call for decentralization and it goes to active Witness voters or something to spread it out so any one person wouldn’t get that much. I also think we need to weaponize the reward pool. Time for battle.

Choosing Witnesses:

I encourage people to post articles highlighting the types of witnesses who oppose the centralization of Tron Overlord Justin Sun who is done. Is it true that larger accounts have larger voting weight?

Voting Weight

According to one article, it appears that new Steem accounts were created in February 2020 and that around ten or so of these new accounts outvoted thousands of voters who voted for the other witnesses.

Electoral College

I'm not even sure if I want to compare this to the U.S. voting system where Trump got the electoral college votes and Clinton stole the popular votes. She didn't actually win the popular votes.

Saving Steem

But I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here because I want to save Steem.

Yes, time to put aside all differences at this time. Let's sort this out first, together. I mean every single one of us has to agree on at least the same 20 witnesses, i.e. 21-40...at least!

03.03.2020 11:58

Done. Everyone should reach out to other Steemians they know, especially ones that haven't been active lately.

03.03.2020 12:17

There is no decision about how to further proceed with the funds. The intent of 22.2 was to prevent exactly what happened, there's no going back. But now that we learned that the fears were valid, there need to be consequences to prevent overtakes like that. Lowering the amount of individual votes, or dividing the influence by the amount of cast votes could be a solution, but that has to be thought through more.

03.03.2020 12:22

I just want to know if the versions they run still has the block steemit code in it.

other than that, DPoS works as intended. You guys signed up to a plutocracy, and just because some people don't like the outcome, doesn't mean it needs to be changed IMO.

Education is key - teach people why they should vote and not hold funds on CEX. Try to get Steem listed on non-custodial exchanges are very important actions

03.03.2020 12:49

The block steemit part has been overridden with the overtake, it isn't possible to run that version any more.

I just set my voting proxy to @forum.orcinorum (which is the proxy of many of our german community) and I hope this is good for your intention. The steemit account has only less than 10% of the SP, so it should be easy for us to counter the takeover.

Edit: I see they have more than 26%. But we can reach this value as well.he account poloni

This is not the time to hang on with differences. we definitely have to forget that stuff till blockchain is back in the hands of those who love and respect decentralization. We need to concentrate our witness votes to top 21-40 rank community witnesses. Just did that with my little stake.

I also recommend that those who can afford - just go out, buy 100,200 etc steems and powerup

At https://steemd.com/witnesses, it says "99.21875% Participation" meaning that 99% of vested steem is already voting? That sounds too high to be true?

We either take this back over as a community now, or we will have to fork out. Let's get this done!

Yes! Either one. I agree the restoration of witnesses would be less disruptive, but ultimately if tensions are so deep a fork may be inevitable.

03.03.2020 14:42
0

The participation is the percentage of witnesses who produced a block right now. Many (now-)backup witnesses stopped block production out of protest, so it's not always at 100%

03.03.2020 14:56
0

The participation is the percentage of witnesses who produced a block right now

Ah makes sense. The number I am more interested in is the percentage of vested steem that is voting for at least one witness.

On it! I still got some witness votes left.

Witnesses_Target.jpg

03.03.2020 15:05
0

I'm a bit conflicted. Many of the witnesses in the 21-40 range are powering down massive amounts of steem. While I understand why, I'm not sure that makes them a good choice to vote for...

03.03.2020 15:30
0

The amount of powered up steem should never be a reason for a witness vote in my views. Trust has nothing to do with their personal finances.

03.03.2020 15:43
0

I'll respectfully disagree. While I agree 100% that personal finances shouldn't be a consideration, powering up or down steem is often about factors beyond that. Powering down steem shows a lack of long term commitment to the platform (my interpretation anyway).

It's a bit like voting for a CEO or company board member who is selling their stock in the company.

It's not the amount they have so much as what they are doing with it. Powering down, especially large amounts, signals they may be getting ready to get the hell out of Dodge so to speak. And like I said, I don't blame them, I'm just not sure that's where I want my witness vote (though I sure don't want it in the current top 20 either).

03.03.2020 19:20
0

Witnesses have costs, they need to cover them somehow, we don't know how their living situation is outside of steem.

Also, power downs not automatically mean a divestment. I was in constant full power down for years.

03.03.2020 19:38
0

is that so? I didn't check it before casting my vote. If it's true I personally think there's no reason to be voting them in the current situation. I have to double check them thanks

04.03.2020 04:12
0

Like I said, I'm a bit conflicted. I don't really know why any one of them is powering down at any given moment but the fact that 80% or more of the top non-Tron witnesses seemed to be powering down a lot is a bit worrisome. At the end of the day, I think having non-Justin Sun controlled witnesses is more important so it's not affecting my voting for now.

They are powering up

This morning they had about 132 GV per witness. Now it is about 138 GV/w. @goodguy24(ironic) is less than a GV behind @yabapmatt. I believe that some steemians who support Sun Yuchen(Justin's real name) are casting vote towards his top witness. And yes, he has supporters motivated by opposition to SF 0.22.2. I was and still am against freezing Steemit's assets but I am also against letting Sun having that much power to exploit a network that today have shown serious vulnerabilities in the safety mechanisms to prevent centralization. ![image.png]()

Hi @pharesim

I think you're right and I'm going to go review my votes now. Unfortunately that means I might have to remove you as one of my witnesses, to try and help the closest one to getting back in the top 20 but I'll try not to. I have always kept my vote for you through thick and thin after you paid for the steemfest 3 ticket I won in your comp, for which I'm eternally grateful.

I think we were debating in the pal MSP last night? 😆 it is all a bit of a blur as I was pissed both metaphorically and literally (I'd had a few drinks and was upset at the whole situation)

Cool. I just went to sort out my witness votes and didn't realize how many I had set to people who had shut down nodes or weren't really active doing much. Plus, like I said I had to remove some I would have liked to keep but tactically they were better put to use helping to push the people near the top 20 further toward that goal. Similarly I ended up voting tactical to someone who I really don't like what they stand for and the way they've behaved in the past... but at the moment getting control back is more important.

Ended up with 9 votes to cast after the great witness cull of 2020 lol
