So It all happened few minutes to 5pm on 4th October 2021. I was online and surely wasn't spared of the general temporary Facebook apps crash.
The whole thing was Very frustrating!💔😥
I'm sure most of us if not all, can relate to this.
Some of us were online , doing one thing or the other and suddenly, it was as if the world stood still...
Some people started getting agitated and restless...
I don't know how many people actually threw their phones out the window in annoyance.
A few who had been truly addicted started having withdrawal symptoms...
Why? For what?
Because of a mere social media downtime which didn't even last for up to 24hrs? This would show you how much people have revolved and tied their very existence around social media.
Eyes always on the phone: in buses, lecture halls, supermarkets, even on busy roads- I have seen someone almost knocked down by a car because she was engrossed in the conversation she was having online.
Even worse, it has gotten to the church. Instead of listening in on sermons and jotting down notes, believers are online, doing one thing on the other. You don't even need to listen closely before you start hearing notification sounds from people's devices. Hmmm!💔
But, Wait a minute!
Do you know that there is life outside social media? That a real world exists outside Facebook news feed, WhatsApp statuses and Instagram handles and followers.
I know some of us use the above as useful tools: Some of us preach and share the Word on social media, others source business clients, acquire educational materials , attend important events and the like.
Wait a minute, though,
Let me ask you these...
During that downtime, how many of you checked up on your loved ones?
That Bible you abandoned since two days ago till the next Sunday when you will dust and carry to church, did you ever pick it up to study even a chapter?
How many of you meditated on God, on the life you live and the future in sight?
To the married ones, did you take that time to listen to your spouse or help your children with their homework?
I know most of us just went off to sleep- No, sir. Don't scroll pass this post. It's you I'm referring to.😐
See...it's not everytime your 2 or 4 eyes must be on a lighted screen 24/7, there is a life outside OFFLINE: beyond that 25-centimetre device in your hand.
There is more to life than waking up first thing every morning to check how many reactions your post has on Facebook, than how many views you have got on your status.
Thank God the technical lapses on the social media platforms have been resolved, nevertheless, remember that life still goes on beyond chatting and posting.
All these was meant to teach us a lesson: to let our priorities be our priorities-, God, family, health and ourselves. I pray we all learn from this and make necessary adjustments.
