MAPX News: How do our vote bonds work? - 30 August 2019

Some days ago I mentioed that the MAPX vote bond program didn't really need daily updates any longer - that was 5 days ago!

Well, the weekly report is due on Sunday, so this is very much a thought-post.

Worth reading today's MAPXV post as it discusses the same topic of how to best think of our vote bonds.

MAPX was not really designed as just an upvote service. Sure, it delivers upvotes to token-holders but such MAPX members have not paid for the service - they've paid for the tokens!

This may seem a meaningless distinction, but think that when you come to sell your MAPX token you may well even make a profit on the deal. At that point, you haven't paid a fee for the upvotes, you've held an investment that pays out "interest" in the form of votes.

The mathematics is very different to something like the so-called bidbots and even vote-trading services. Your MAPX token is backed by assets, mainly SP but also other MAP FinTech tokens. This means it is also more like a stablecoin than a speculative token.

The media appears schizophrenic on this issue; apparently everyone wants stable stablecoins... and huge profits! Sorry, can't have both. I know, stablecoins are supposed to have some transactional utility but designing one with sufficient backing has not been easy. MAPX is a small token so is very simpl to be stable. Just try bringing the market price down and I will gladly buy up all such tokens below 1 STEEM!

So, what you get with MAPX is a fairly stable price, liquidity to sell quickly (just two days to unstake) and "interest" in the form of upvotes. MAPX delivers modest profits and a slowly rising price backed by STEEM assets.

A small plug for our big brother, MAXUV!

Here, again, is the MAXUV launch post and the Steem Engine MAXUV market.

So what's the difference bwteen MAPX and MAXUV? Well, MAPX is currently much better for small token-holders. So if you only have 1 STEEM, then MAPX may be more useful; if, on the other hand, you have 100 STEEM, then MAXUV starts to be the better bet.

Have a fine day!

OK, time for a random bonus upvote!

Today's 10% upvote goes to... @theb0red1. Congratulations!

A 10% upvote from MAPX is equivalent to 100 MAPX tokens and today is worth 0.0698 STEEM. (Mmmm... that's more than our last such upvote before HF21. "Curiouser and curiouser!" cried Alice.)

Enjoy your day!
