Day 821: 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: fresh air
text16.png
5:00 a.m. Brody was already woke when the alarm went off. It was time to rise. His mom quickly packed their small picnic basket while he helped the four younger kids dress. How he wished the younger ones could remainat home while he and his mom make the 10-mile trip to the station.

8:00 a.m. Mandatory cut-off time to be present in line at the junction. So, Brody and his family, together with every other person in Desopolov, must make the rugged trip to the junction for their monthly ration of food, water, and new masks given only to those who can produce their punched card.

Notice was posted that train #D002 was scheduled to remain in Desopolov for 8 hours in order to service 5,000 residents.

Brody sighed, thinking we have no car. If so, we could get there quicker and roll up the windows. Instead, we must hurry from the house to the rugged path, turn west onto the winding dirt road, and begin our 10-mile journey. It will be hard on the younger ones.

And, we must not look on either side of the road. We must forge ahead and try not to think about the decaying bodies lining the ditches. We have a mission, and a deadline we must keep so that one of us won't be lying on either side of the road next month, having succumbed to the conditions in which we now live. Somehow, I feel even the younger ones sense this. So we move along quickly.

I nestle half the younger ones close to me, while mom, the other half, in an attempt to help them hold their masks in place. The air quality is dangerously unsafe, from both the extremely dense pollution that fills the air, and the stench eminating from the above-ground corpses of neighbors, friends, and family.

Each step brings us closer to the station. Please pray we make it in time.

Wow..! I like the way you involve us as readers. One can feel that you are giving us a step-by-step report and the end is great for me, appealing to our prayers for everything to go well, creating the illusion of being part of it, of being able to contribute something, even if it is by praying.
Well done,@justclickindiva!

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words of support and encouragement. If it were me and my family, and these conditions actually arose in the near future, then I think we'd all need collective prayer to get through the ordeal.

This may seem unrealistic and farfetched, but the way we're going with our planet, I can see it clearly in my mind's eye.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to view my content. Appreciate it. Have a great day ahead.

An old Indian saying; "When the last bird sings its final song" comes to mind here my friend. Scary stuff indeed and we simply have to get our act together to protect nature!
Blessings!
