This little prelude is the first in the collection known as the Eight Little Preludes and Fugues. Although, Johann Sebastian Bach was thought to have composed the works, it is now believed to have been written by Johann Krebs or possibly a collection of Bach's students. The prelude is a Toccata like prelude with continuous 16th notes played from beginning to end. The effect is not that of a melody but of a development of chordal harmonies. The fugue is a four voice fugue.
