Today was a special day!
Suriname was represented in UFC 244!
The world got to watch Jairzinho Rozenstruik beat a former heavyweight champ with yet another knockout! It only took 29 seconds and he's now 9-0 in Mixed Martial Arts.
Through all the excitement I realized what a great achievement it is and how Suriname was standing behind him.
Another random thought and maybe the flipside of it is:
Sports mixed with national pride and social media (social pressures) is a fascinating aspect of modern day life. In one way I think there is a strong sense of 'having to show your pride' in ways that you might not naturally do. In sports there is always a slight sense of competition in who is the 'real fan' as opposed to a 'bandwagon fan' who just joined because of (recent) success.
Either way I sincerely hope the success continues and that SURINAME is put on the map in yet another sport!
