Matthew 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
The desire to be the greatest is buried in the heart of the natural man. There's a serious drive in many hearts to overtake others. In this age of competition, the Lord Jesus brings us a deep knowledge on how to become the greatest in the Kingdom of God. It's significant because since the world is passing away, we must focus on eternal greatness in the Kingdom of God. A humble heart is the qualification for eternal greatness.
Looking at the humility of a child, it's important to discover that a little child is ready to take instructions, do what is instructed, go where they are asked to go, among others. A child is ready to obey without questioning the tangibility of the outcome. He/she does not seek to know why before doing what is instructed. He doesn't resort to logic or rationality as a condition for obedience. Thus, he's ready to do anything the older person instructed.
This is the same way we should relate with God's word. The word of God is to be obeyed without argument. We should humble ourselves under the Holy Spirit even when His instructions are not logical. We should humble ourselves under our leaders even though they are arrogant, imperfect or not as intelligent as we are. The greatest is the humble. No prideful person is accepted before God, irrespective of their activities in favour of the kingdom of God. Be humble today in all your dealings.
Let's pray together.
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the instructions for greatness. Please destroy every pride in us and put in us a humble heart, in Jesus name. Amen.
