✨Thermodynamics✨

"Oh my!"πŸ™†πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ "What did we do to deserve a punishment like this!" 😡 "Is it a word? What is that?". Theese, are some popular phrases that could come to our minds when we think about this magnificent word, BUUUT! Don't be afraid pal! 😎 Actually Thermodynamics are very common, in fact, the majority of the development of new technologies hadn't been possible without thermodynamic studies, if you have a refrigerator, an air conditioner, a heater or even a car, let me tell you that this science are closer than you think.

As you know, the human beings have been allways looking for new methods to simplify the routinary tasks and get a better lifestyle, using resources and, of course, ENERGY✨

We can define Thermodynamics as the field of the physics in charge of the studies of the different types of energy and its transformations. Some energies that maybe you should know are: Gravitational, electric, wind power, hydraulic. Thanks to the Thermodynamics we can use efficiently the energy in our lives.

The first principle of Thermodynamics says that:

"Energy is neither created nor destroyed, it only transforms" - Antoine Lavoisier.

It is an universal principle (OMG, I think I have goosebumps πŸ˜…), it means, for example, if you have a fan, the electric energy transforms into a mechanical energy, then into pressure and wind power useful to lower the temperature of a room or equipment. It also means that is impossible to perform Goku's KamehamehaπŸ™„.

If we speak about internal combustion vehicles, we have to say that the process starts with chemical energy (the gas is a substance wich contains a lot of energy inside), and with the help of a spark generates a controlled explosion in the motor. Using a set of mecanisms the explosion turns into a recurrent movement used to run the car.

Is it practically possible to gain 100% efficiency from any energy transformation?

Hi! @tapan. Unfortunately is only possible in the paper, in real life it is impossible because in each transition the energy misses a little bit (this losses are called irreversibilities). In the reality even an 60% of efficiency in a process is very high. The study of this rate and the irreversibilities are related to the 2nd law of Thermodynamics (I didn't want to include it in my post because maybe it's too much πŸ˜…): the energy have quantity and quality. Imagine the same example of the car: it's impossible that all the energy turns into movement, part of this energy will transform into heat, light, friction between the surfaces of the set of mecanisms... The processess are not ideal. But for some studies you can assume ideal processes to obtain approximations of certain phenomenon. I hope it will help you to love more this area.
