March 15th is my wife's birthday. That's tomorrow. While at lunch yesterday, our doorbell rang and a delivery man was outside looking for my wife. He said he had a package for her. Now who would be sending her a package without first texting her or advising her about it? As far as she was concerned she wasn't expecting anything for that day. So she went out and received the package. It was a big one. And it was gift wrapped!
She found out from the deliveryman that the package came from her nephew, Paolo, who used to live with us and is now working in Germany. It was his birthday gift to her.
It obviously was a framed painting and so she hurriedly opened it. Tadaaa.
Orchids for her birthday! What a lovely and pleasant surprise.
Now how was her nephew able to manage sending her this gift? Apparently, Paolo has an artist friend who lives in the same city as we do. This artist friend of his is self taught and did not undergo any formal lessons in painting. Yet, on pure talent alone, he comes up with some really good works of art. Paolo said that this artist friend of his needed some financial support because sales of his art has been very slow since the pandemic. This has resulted in him often bartering his works for basic necessities like rice, foodstuffs and clothes. So he bought this painting from him to give to my wife for her birthday.
This even made the gift more meaningful and special for my wife. It now hangs in our guest room, the room where Paolo used to stay when he lived with us.
