When someone tells someone to "go back" where they "came from", or where they "belong", it may or may not be as obviously racist as if they sling a racial slur...but it is. When someone slings a racial slur, the implication is that they're less than, because they're just some **. And that's kinda the same thing when they tell them to go back to where they came from. They don't have the right to be here. They don't have the right to complain. They are just some immigrant. They should learn the language and be grateful they're even allowed to be here...because they're less than.
When I heard the president say "go back" to those congress women, it immediately linked in my brain to the effort in history to send slaves back to Africa.
They don't belong here. They're not white.
Not like anyone "belongs" here, except maybe the Native Americans, who themselves are intermixed with multiple migrants from the Bering Strait and perhaps elsewhere.
What's most disturbing is to see republicans try to pretend like this isn't racist. Like it's not utterly horrid. And what's more, for Trump's support among republicans to actually go up.
How can anyone not know this is racist? How can they not know it's un-American to tell people to leave the country just because they disagree with them?
There are a fuckton of people that dislike different things about the country...even those same ones that tell people to leave the country if they don't like it.
Maybe they should have left when Obama was president. Or when they stole the country from the natives. It's fucking stupid.
All of us live in this country, and we have to live together. We have to figure out how to live together, work together, even with racist fucking bastards, like the president.
