My heart goes out to those in the Kyoto Animation Studio fire.

You may or may not have heard about the fire at Kyoto Animation studio in Japan.

TBH, I didn't really remember the name "Kyoto Animation" when I first heard about this, just a few minutes ago. But I am a huge fan of anime...even if I don't necessarily always have time to watch it. So I looked up a list of the anime that they have worked on...

And then in a split second...I almost broke down and cried.

I didn't know anyone that worked at Kyoto Animation. I don't know who died. I only know these people by their works. Their art.

Kyoto Animation at Wikipedia

Reading through their works is like reading through a list of great artworks. Many of them are wonderful animes that many people love. Many of them I don't even know. But one of them...one of them brought me almost to tears...to know that the creators of one of my favorite animes of all time may be dead...their workplace destroyed...and they may never create another work like that...

Talking about it likewise is almost bringing me to tears.

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions is the story of a young boy and his delusional neighbor that has this sort of middle schoolers syndrome, where she creates these elaborate fantasies. She believes she has magical powers and can see through to the other side. This is what is known as "chunibyo".

But all that explains nothing about the show.

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions isn't really just about some girl that has delusions...it's about love, loss, family, depression, and just trying to deal with reality. It will make you cry. It will make you squee. It will make your heart yearn for a love like theirs.

I can't explain the show. I can't explain how much you'll grow to love these stupid characters that are just completely fucking nuts...and not even real. I can't explain how beautiful of a piece of art it is on so many levels. I could possibly show you an image of the animation that would give you an idea of that level of art...but that doesn't explain how it makes your heart thump because of the beauty of the script.

Your Art will Outlive You

There are many things that people do to ensure they have a legacy. They have children. They create things. They create art. They create science. They create things they will be remembered for.

There are many reasons that people create art. Creating a legacy is just one possible reason. I don't know that the cavemen that drew on the walls of a cave thought about their art being there so long after they lived...but for some reason something pushed them to collect natural pigments and spend hours by fire light painting things on a wall. That's what art does to you. For some reason there's this drive to spend hours getting the art out. Sometimes weeks or even months.

Sometimes you practically kill yourself making that art.

But, if people appreciate it, and they will if you put your all into it, they will preserve it, and it will outlive you.

I don't know who that was involved in the anime I love might have possibly died...but I know that the art that they created will live on and be loved by millions, for generations to come.

You will be loved, by people that never even met you.

Live on forever in your art, and rest in peace.

OMG, that's so SAD! Some of the anime they made are things I totally grew up on. The entire Full Metal Panic Series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Clannad...God, this is terrible! T_T
