Good evening all and I hope everyone is well and had a top day.
Here's a relatively simple one I shot a while back and a good reminder for me that keeping things simple can be just as, if not more effective than throwing everything into a shot.
There was a light dusting of snow in Bolehill Quarry on this particular evening, which made a magical place even more perfect. I love the peace and tranquility here and it is one of my favourite places to shoot day or night.
I generally like to add lots of layers and techniques into my light art but on this occasion I used just a single torch and a smoke grenade.
My friend ignited the grenade and walked off to the side of the frame with a super bright torch until I said stop. Shining it at right angles to the direction the camera was pointing. I call this cross lighting and it really adds some drama and beautiful contrast to an image.
I like the sense of mystery created, like something is about to, or has just happened and I enjoy leaving that decision to the viewer.
Hope you like it and as ever....
