Bitcoin theft is back. This time it happened to one of the Binance cryptocurrency exchanges. Hackers stole US $ 41 million (Rp588 billion) from the crypto currency exchange from China, which now operates outside of China.
But this hack was no worse than last year's crypto exchange hack of US $ 950 million (Rp. 13.6 trillion). Theft is carried out on cryptocurrency exchange services to crypto wallets.
The value of this hack is up nearly 260 percent from the previous year, based on research data from the US-based cyber security company, CiptherTrace. Hacking from crypto exchanges in Japan and South Korea accounted for 58 percent of total theft last year.
Binance is one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, explaining that as many as 7 thousand bitcoins were withdrawn by hackers using a number of techniques, such as "phishing, viruses, and other attacks," explained Chief Executive Officer Zhao Changpeng as written on the Binance website.
In the article, Binance said that the funds held by users will not be affected, because the company will use their safe reserve assets to replace these funds and cover losses.
